1. Tent you - can share.
2. Warm sleeping bag / bedroll.
3. Food - enough for two days of meals, pack smart meals that are easy to prepare.
4. small camp stove / mess kit for cooking.
5. Head lamp or small flash light.
6. Rain gear / rubber boots / layered clothing and a change of clothing.
7. Hiking Boots.
8. Toque, light gloves.
9. Fully charged camera battery, camera, and camera case.
10. Small back pack for gear.

Assignments for the Ancient Forrest and Grizzly Den Hike

 

Photo 11/12-Science 9  


Part  1 – Grizzly Den Hike

 
For this short hike you will be assigned to a group of science 9 students. (see groupings below) In this assignment, you will be responsible for collaborating and documenting the science 9’s activity on the ecosystem. The 9’s will be recording and documenting things they have learned. You are the photographer they are the scientist, the photos you take will coincide with their findings and will be presented on a power point on a later date for the 9’s and be posted to your blog.  Remember you are a reporting team so work together. (Make sure you include interactive pictures of yourself and the 9’s)

Part 2 – Camp Life

 
In this assignment, you will document our camping experience. As the photographer you will be challenged by the lighting conditions, so think carefully about your shutter speeds and aperture settings.

Make sure you consider everything you have learned to date with regards to photo composition (don’t be afraid to experiment) Have fun with this, try and record the experience.

Part 3 – Ancient Forrest Hike

 

In this assignment you will be on your own as far as taking pictures. This is an amazing micro climate, you will be surrounded by huge trees hundreds of years old, with a variety of lush vegetation. Lighting will be interesting again as there are bright and dim areas. Once again, consider all that you have learned in the basic composition assignment. Consider perspective, and distance, be creative with your photography, record a fabulous story of this trip.

At the end of the trip we will post these photos on the TV monitors in the school to promote this event for further classes, so take great pictures!

 

 

Have fun with this trip to the ancient forest, work together and take some fabulous pictures. Remember I don’t expect you to be pro’s on this, experiment, become familiar with the functions on your camera, and try to apply the basics of taking good pictures. Think about why you are taking the picture, and what you are trying to communicate. Have fun and enjoy the experience!

Capturing Movement      There are many different strategies for creating the illusion of movement,  Make sure you label each picture and summarize the photo technique and the editing tools you used. Have fun and good luck! Take 10 photos using different movement techniques. Rememeber be creative and use a variety of different techniques. Each photo is assessed out of 9. Make sure you assess and document your strategies. Consider the following techniques: Panning (following the moving subject with the camera), slow shutter speed fast shutter speed, all these will give you a variety of different results. A slow shutter speed will give you a blur, a fast shutter speed will freeze your movement, a pan will give you a frozen object with a blurred background.
